Just a few minutes’ drive north of the dive center, Eel Garden is the home to Dahab’s largest colony of garden eel and a host of other sea-life

After a wade across the reef shelf, we enter the water at a channel in the reef. Heading out we pass over a coral ridge and head down to meet the eels. Garden eels live in permanent tubular burrows on the sandy bottom, you can see them standing upright, heads bent into the current picking at passing food. Like a living curtain, the eels slowly slide back into their burrows as we swim by.

Divers with their PADI Deep Diver certification and carry on down the slope to a wonderful deep reef at 40 meters

After the eels we move along and up the sandy slope before turning back to return along the fringing reef. The corals here are amongst the most vibrant and colourful in Dahab and this is the perfect place to do our ‘swimming’ safety stop while enjoying some glorious marine life.

Diving here is dependent on the wind conditions and is best to dive at high tide.
