Ras Abu Galum Protected Area
Take this unique Dahab experience to enjoy the vibrant corals of the National Park of Ras Abu Galum.
Ras Abu Galum is a very special place to visit for diving, snorkelling and relaxing. Not easily accessible by road, traditionally this trip was done overland, by camel (and still can be!) but, these days it’s more common to go by sea as the Bedouins have all bought speed-boats!
We leave Dahab early morning and drive to the ‘end-of-the-road’ at the Blue Hole, here we jump on a camel, or in a speed boat and set off to Abu Galum, which takes one and half hours, or twenty minutes respectively! Sometimes, if people would like to, we start very early and do a dive at the Blue Hole before departing.
There are several dive sites between Ras Abu Galum village and the ‘Blue Lagoon’ to the north. These include ‘Haggar’ ‘Khoramat’ and Abu Galum itself. Which ones we visit will depend on conditions and if you do this as a single day or multi-day trip.
For day trips we complete 2 dives and return to Dahab after lunch. For multi-day trips, we also do a night dive, then stay the night and join the Bedouins for delicious food, before rising with sun for the next day’s diving and return later that day,
Things to watch out for, are turtles, eagle rays and giant barracuda, which come in from the open sea to visit the cleaner wrasse which populate this area.
This safari is a great day trip and a truly unique “Dahab” experience.
