Gabr El Bint
Dahab’s best boat safari! An hour by boat takes us to the fantastic protected area of Gabr el Bint and other spectacular dive sites!
DAHAB DIVE SITES
Gabr Boat Trip
Dahab’s very own ‘mini-Ras Mohamed’ this is an exceptional area of marine life and can only be reached by boat safari. This is a superb day out for divers, snorkelers, swimmers and those who just want to relax and soak up the sun.
GABR EL BINT
From the boat we head south to the reef which drops away into the blue. The reef wall is magnificent and eventually we arrive at an incredible array of enormous gorgonian fans stretching into the depths. At the this point we shallow up over a pristine coral ridge into an incredible shallow lagoon which has an amazing coral garden
Large schools of snapper, milk-fish, turtles and many species of reef fish are common here.
Visits by large pelagic species are more common than elsewhere and occasionally a playful dolphin will join you here.
SHAIRA
Just beyond the Cave’s and only accessible by boat in calm conditions, Shaira is the first of 3 incredible dives site we pass on the way to Gabr el Bint itself. We may do it at the start of the day or as a 3rd dive on a 3-dive day. At any time of day is has an amazing array of different corals and abundant fish life to marvel at. Tuna, Sweet-lips and Humpback Snapper make a major show here.
SHAAB SAID
On the way to Gabr El Bint we pass the amazing Shaab Said dive site. Shaab Said means ‘happy corals’ and if conditions are right (low wind!) we will often jump in here for a drift-dive along the lush and varied marine life living amongst spectacular coral formations.
Shaab Said is fantastic for snorkellers as well.
SHOGHARAT
If you are lucky and conditions are right, we can dive at the truly spectacular dive site known as ‘Shogharat’
This is also a drift dive from south to north and passes over a deep canyon and on to some beautiful and dramatic coral formations which gives the site its name (Shogharat literally means ‘many trees’) There is also a forest of gorgonian fans here which some say are the most impressive in the entire Red Sea!
Many, many types of reef fish and schools of pelagic species are often seen here and photographers especially will be looking for the elusive long-nose fish amongst the fan corals
GABR TRIP BY CAMEL – *No Longer Available…sorry!
